• Typing inside a PDF file and adding a signature

Typing inside a PDF file and also adding a signature to it are possible. First, we will present the method for typing within PDF fields, and then we will present the method for adding a signature to the file.

As an example, we will present Form 2513/2 of the Tax Authority, which includes a declaration for an exemption from withholding tax at source for a transfer to a foreign resident. This form’s PDF file should be saved in a computer folder before filling it out.

The PDF file should be opened not in a browser, but using the free Adobe Reader software, which can be downloaded via this download link, or by searching Google for: Download Adobe Reader.

When the file is open in Adobe Reader, open the left-side menu by simultaneously pressing the key combination: Shift + F4. A menu should open as seen in the screenshot:

Now, expand the menu to display all options by clicking with the mouse at the bottom of the menu on the link that says “View more,” as shown in the screenshot:

When the options menu expands, click on the “Fill & Sign” option, as shown in the following screenshot:

Clicking on this menu header will open a menu that appears on the left side of the document, as shown in the following screenshot:

Clicking in the menu on the letter A inside a box will change the mouse’s operation mode. Now, when you click with the mouse anywhere inside the file, you will be able to type text onto the file, for example, within a field to be filled in the form. This is how selecting the typing option using the icon with the letter A looks:

When the field is for typing a number, markings for the expected placement of digits may appear while typing, as shown in the following screenshot:

And typing text, which allows for increasing or decreasing the font size, looks like this:

Exiting the specific text typing is possible by touching the mouse elsewhere on the form or its background.

When you wish to delete existing text, you can add a rectangle over it and set its border and fill color to white, for example, by right-clicking to select a rectangle and then choosing the Properties option, which looks like this:

After adding such a white rectangle, you must send the document to print as a PDF and give it a new name, since to add new text over the white rectangle area, the file must be locked.

It is also possible to add  marks or draw lines over text marked as deleted in this way.

Adding a signature is possible in two ways. The first is by writing it using the mouse, and the second is by uploading an image file, such as a PNG, in the add signature menu.

The add signature menu is located in the typing menu and is marked with a signature icon, as shown in the screenshot:

Upon clicking the signature icon, a menu opens allowing for the addition of a signature. Click the plus sign to add a signature in the top option, and a signature area will take over the screen, looking like this:

The recommended way to do this is not that, but rather choosing the Image option, then you can choose to upload an image file, which will from now on be your signature, which you can place over content in the PDF file.

It is recommended that you have a signature written in blue pen on a clean white page, which you scanned at a high scanning quality, for example 600 DPI (six hundred dots per square inch), and then converted the scanned signature area into an image file by copying part of the scanned page using the button combination: WIN + SHIFT + S, which allows you to copy a rectangle from what is displayed on the screen, and paste it, for example, into an image editor, which can be opened in Windows operating systems by typing the launch command for MSPAINT, and then saving the signature as a PNG file containing a scanned blue pen and a white background.

When uploading this type of signature, the white background becomes transparent in the Adobe Reader software, allowing for the addition of the signature. This is how the upload of an image file, chosen to be the signature used in editing PDF files, looks:

At the end of the editing, you must send the file to be printed again as a PDF with a new name, which will be the PDF where, on top of the previous appearance of the content, your added content is also present, for example by typing, drawing lines, marking examples like  or adding a signature.

It is important to ensure that you save the PDF file as A4 page size, since some of the source files are not in this size.
